Purpose

Not every challenge fits into a standard sprint or mentorship box. The Custom Engagement allows us to "Tetris" different capabilities together to solve a complex problem.

This is common when an organization needs focused support across multiple areas, or when constraints make a standard engagement difficult to execute effectively.

When a Custom Engagement Is Appropriate

A Custom Engagement is considered when a client’s needs do not map cleanly to a standard package but still fall squarely within my expertise and operating model.

  • Narrower scope: You need focused support in one area without a full standard engagement.
  • Constraints: Timing, maturity or organizational realities prevent effective execution of a standard package.
  • Post-Foundational Overview support: You want targeted implementation support beyond a retainer without a full Enablement Sprint.

Common Custom Scenarios

  • The Hybrid: Mentoring a new Director of Engineering while defining the Incident Management process they will own.
  • The Interim: Acting as temporary Head of Engineering while hiring the permanent role, then onboarding them.
  • The Specific Fix: A short engagement focused solely on fixing a broken Hiring Pipeline or Performance Review cycle.

How We Scope This

We start with a discovery call to identify the "must-haves." We then build a proposal that defines clear boundaries, deliverables and a fixed project rate. This ensures you get exactly the mix of support you need without scope creep.
